Ciambellone - Easy Italian Plum-cake
Ciambellone is one of the most typical #homemade #plum cake of the Italian tradition, it has a classic round shape with a hole in the center. There is an idiomatic expression inspired by this cake that sounds like: "not all donuts come with the hole" which means that not everything always goes as expected. In some Regions of Italy the shape is a rectangular loaf covered with grains of sugar, although the basic ingredients and the consistency of the dough are the same. The basic ingredients are flour, milk, sugar, eggs, butter with the addition of other ingredients such as raisins, cocoa, yogurt and flavors such as lemon or #cinnamon.
All-purpose flour 300 g. Sugar 160 g. Whole eggs 3. Butter 150 g. 1/2 cup milk. grated peel of a lemon. Baking powder 1 bag Vanilla to taste a pinch of salt
Melt the butter in microwave for 1 minute at low power. Whisk the egg whites until stiff. Beat sugar and #butter until #fluffy with electric mixer and add the remaining ingredients together with the melted butter. Incorporate the whisked egg whites. Preheat oven to 180 C / 350 F / Gas 4. Use a greased 26 cm round or 26 x 20 cm rectangular springform pan. Sprinkle with 1-2 tablespoons sugar. Bake in preheated oven on middle shelf for about 45 minutes or until a skewer comes out clean.
